Elementary
Curriculum
The curriculum of SMIC-I’s elementary school (Grades 1 to 5) is. . .
A blend of the best Eastern and Western instructional approaches and standards. Our courses are student-centered, balancing academic excellence with physical, social, and emotional well-being. We align our K-12 curriculum to research based standards, yet cater our resources and instructional approaches to meet the needs of our diverse student population.
Students in Grades 1 through Grade 3 receive primary instruction in a self-contained classroom with one teacher and an assistant teacher. Students in Grades 4 and 5 rotate classes for each individual subject area. All students take Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts, Chinese, and Social Studies daily, and Music, Art, Technology, and Physical Education weekly. Chinese language instruction is provided in separate classes for both native and non-native speakers by native Chinese teachers.
Our students receive individualized instruction and attention in a positive, student-centered environment. Our primary focus is to educate and nurture students to become global citizens of honor and self-discipline who are committed to independent thinking and service to others. To achieve this goal, we align our curriculum to the following standards:
